Many analysts didn’t anticipate the iPad 2 selling as well as it has. The first day of sales was Friday, but within mere hours, the device had sold out at many locations across the country. Apple has projected that within the first three days, they sold 400,000 to 600,000 of the devices, which is approximately the same amount they sold when the original went on sale.
But iPad 2 tablets were not only selling out at Apple. They were also flying off the shelves at the many locations where it was offered, such as Verizon Wireless, Walmart, AT&T, Best Buy, and Target. According to Ravi Jariwala, a spokesperson for Walmart, “We expect to sell as many iPad 2s as we can receive from Apple.”
Apple has also been improving in stock, since news broke of how well the iPad 2 has been faring. On Monday, after the opening bell, they were up by more than 1%. It ultimately ended up at $352.75.
In related news, the white iPhone will be debuting in Spring. Why the postponement? It isn’t quite yet understood, but Apple has admitted that the white phone is “more challenging to manufacture than we originally expected.”
News of the upcoming white iPhone first broke when 16-year-old Eric Anderson questioned Apple vice president Phil Schiller how he could procure a white iPhone. Schiller responded via Twitter that the phone will be available this spring.
In related news, the iPad 2 was launched on Friday, and its debut included a white version as well as a black. One analyst believes that the reason for its delayed release involves a full-lamination issue that affects coating the device. The white iPhone 4 will surely grab the attention of some avid Apple fans, but perhaps it would be more practical to wait until the release of the iPhone 5, which is expected to debut this Summer.
